CRADLES TO CRAYONS WELCOMES PROJECT 351 AMBASSADORS FOR 5th YEAR OF LAUNCH DAY SERVICE

65 8th grade Ambassadors kick off Project 351 at The Giving Factory in Brighton

WHAT:

Cradles to Crayons—along with Pine Street Inn, Greater Boston Food Bank, Brighton High, and Green Academy—will host Project 351 Ambassadors for an afternoon of volunteer service as part of Project 351’s Launch Day of Programming and Service. Following an inspirational kick-off at Faneuil Hall, Project 351 “Service Hero” teams fan out to Boston neighborhoods to provide vital support at high impact nonprofit organizations, engaging in transformational service, team building, and service learning. Ambassadors at Cradles to Crayons’ Giving Factory will spend the afternoon sorting and packing essential items like clothing, shoes, books, and school supplies for local children in need.

Each year, Project 351’s new Class of Ambassadors begin their year of leadership development and service in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The full day of service and programming unites an 8th grade service leader from every city and town in the Commonwealth. Youth are selected for a year’s term by hometown educators for an exemplary ethic of service and the values of kindness, compassion, humility, and generosity of spirit.

Cradles to Crayons’ service afternoon will conclude with a call to action for the Spring Service Partnership, an initiative focused on “cleaning out closets” and donating new and like-new clothing—now in its 4th year. Ambassadors will organize a clothing drive in their community throughout the month of March, collecting and sorting donations for Cradles to Crayons to distribute to its network of nonprofit service partners and into the hands of children in need. Last year the project engaged 197 Massachusetts communities through 208 Ambassador-led drives bringing in 3,516 bags of children’s items.

About Cradles to Crayons:

Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive—at home, at school, and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need. Cradles to Crayons collects new and like-new children’s items through grassroots community drives and corporate donations. Donations are then processed and packaged by volunteers, and are distributed to disadvantaged children across the state through a collaborative network of social service agencies and school partners.
