Jordan’s Furniture delivers truckload of school clothes to support Cradles to Crayons® Ready For Learning Initiative

SEPTEMBER 1, 2022, BOSTON, MA–Jordan’s Furniture made a very special delivery today … and it wasn’t furniture! The 7-store furniture retailer delivered a truck filled with school clothes to the Cradles to Crayons ® Giving Factory in Newtonville, MA. The donated clothes were courtesy of Jordan’s generous customers, who participated in their 2-month collection drive. From June 7 through August 21, all Jordan’s Furniture store locations collected donations of new and gently-used clothing (sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, and coats) for children from birth to twelve years old in support of Cradles to Crayons’ Ready for Learning initiative. This long-running Cradles to Crayons school preparedness program provides low-income and homeless children in Massachusetts with the essential back-to-school supplies and clothing needed to start the year prepared and excited to learn. The Cradles to Crayons/Jordan’s Furniture partnership, now in its tenth year, has supported more than 21,000 children.

“Wow! Our wonderful customers showed their generosity by making so many donations. We are very proud of them. We are also very proud to continue our partnership with Cradles to Crayons,” said Eliot Tatelman, Jordan’s President. “Between economic issues and lingering Covid concerns, this is still a difficult time for many area families, so we are happy to help ease their burden for this upcoming school year by making this significant donation.” Tatelman continues, “By working with the team at Cradles to Crayons, we are happy to do our part in helping area children get ready for school and be prepared to learn.”

Cradles to Crayons, currently celebrating its 20th anniversary, was founded in 2002 with the mission of providing children from birth to age twelve with the clothes, diapers, school supplies, shoes, and other essentials they need to thrive. The organization provides these items free of charge by working through a network of over 100 Service Partners including hospitals, shelters, schools, and community centers. Cradles to Crayons is a trusted resource to families struggling with Clothing Insecurity (defined as the lack of access to affordable, adequate, appropriate clothing), and to the partners who serve those families. Ready for Learning aims to provide 70,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, as well as other critical essentials to children this summer and fall as they prepare for school.

“Many families facing the higher costs of inflation are asking themselves how they can afford back-to-school supplies along with other basic needs,” said Aubrey Henderson, Executive Director of Cradles to Crayons Massachusetts. “The 10-year commitment by Jordan’s Furniture to Cradles to Crayons’ Ready for Learning initiative helps ensure that thousands of local children begin a new school year with the clothing they need. We are deeply grateful,” she stated.
