What is the Gear Up for Baby initiative?
Cradles to Crayons’ year-round Gear Up for Baby initiative focuses on collecting and distributing essential items for infants and toddlers, including onesies, tops, pants, pajamas, diapers, and wipes. Cradles to Crayons Service Partners report that infants and toddlers typically need clothing every 1-2 months, or 6 or more times per year, making a consistent, steady supply of clothing and essentials critical to support a child’s earliest years.
Support for Gear Up for Baby ensures that by providing these essential items, Cradles to Crayons can ease the burden on caregivers who are choosing between paying rent or buying these critical items for the children in their care.
Diapers are a baby’s most essential piece of clothing, yet 1 in 2 U.S. families lack the resources to afford the high cost of diapers and keep their baby clean, dry, and healthy.
From April 2024 through March 2025, Cradles to Crayons distributed 4.4 million diapers in Massachusetts, 3.1 million diapers in Greater Philadelphia, and 1.7 million diapers in Chicagoland.
