New Giving Factory FAQ

What is the Teacher of the Year Challenge?

The Teacher of the Year Challenge is a fundraising initiative in support of Cradles to Crayons’ Ready for School program. The challenge provides community members with an opportunity to recognize educators who have made a significant positive impact on current or former students, while also raising much-needed funds to help children in need.

What is the Ready for School program?

Our Ready for School initiative supports children living in poverty, low-income, homeless, or emergency situations by providing essential items to help prepare them for academic success.

Cradles to Crayons will distribute more than 35,000 new backpacks full of supplies plus customized KidPacks® with shoes, clothing and other essentials to help children be prepared for school and excited to learn.

How does the Teacher of the Year challenge work?

Community members are invited to honor educators by nominating a favorite teacher and then promoting that teacher’s fundraising page to friends, family, and other school alumni to generate donations.

Cradles to Crayons’ 2019-20 Teacher of the Year will be the teacher whose page generates donations to help the most children, based on total funds raised between Aug 1- Sep 30, 2019.

How do I nominate a teacher?

To nominate a current or former teacher, email us by clicking HERE and completing the requested information in the email form.

How do I donate to the Ready for School campaign?

Your donation on this page: www.cradlestocrayons.org/philadelphia/donate-teach/ will help us prepare kids for school success. Making your donation in honor of a teacher is optional.

What is the difference between honoring and nominating a teacher?

For this campaign, “honoring” includes any donation made in recognition of a specific teacher. All teachers honored through this campaign will be listed on our Honoring Teachers webpage.

“Nominating” means setting up a custom fundraising campaign, dedicated to a specific teacher, which can include stories, photos, and additional comments about that teacher’s positive impact.

For each nominated teacher, Cradles to Crayons will set up a basic fundraising page and will provide customization instructions if the person nominating that teacher chooses to add more detail.

Community members are responsible for promoting each teacher’s page to help that educator earn the Teacher of the Year recognition.

All funds raised will support our Ready for School program.

Can I donate in honor of a teacher without nominating them?

Yes! You can donate in honor of any teacher here: www.cradlestocrayons.org/philadelphia/donate-teach/

Who can I nominate?

You can nominate any teacher or administrator who made an impact in your, or your child’s, life.

Any educator, from a Pre-K teacher to a college professor, qualifies for the Teacher of the Year challenge.

The teacher may be a current or retired educator; you may also nominate a teacher who has passed away (in memory.)

How will nominated or honored teachers be notified?

A dedication certificate will be sent to the school of each nominated teacher at the conclusion of the challenge.

All honored teachers will be listed on our website.

What will the teacher who has the most funds donated in their honor receive?

The teacher whose dedication page helps the most children by raising the highest amount of donated funds will will be named the Cradles to Crayons Teacher of the Year.

Our School Supplies section of the Philadelphia Giving Factory, visited by 2,000 volunteers per month, will be officially named for that teacher for the 2019-20 school year.

The Teacher of the Year’s school will receive a plaque recognizing that person's continuing positive impact.

What is the time frame for Teacher of the Year challenge?

The challenge runs from Aug 1 - Sep 30.

Donations received during this time will support our Ready for School program and will count toward helping a teacher earn the Teacher of the Year recognition.

When will the “winning” teacher be announced?

You have the option of customizing your teacher's page with additional stories, quotes, and photos to create a compelling nomination.

Remember that all funds raised on your teacher's page will help us provide children in need with critical items for school success: several outfits, shoes, books, a backpack full of supplies, and more.

What are my responsibilities after I nominate someone?
