New Giving Factory FAQ

Why is Cradles to Crayons moving?

Our new Giving Factory will allow us to grow to serve more than 100,000 children while engaging more than 32,000 volunteers annually.

300,000 children in this region are living in low-income, poverty, or homeless situations.  For the past three years, we have been able to support 70,000+ children, but there are so many more who could benefit from our services.

We currently lack the warehouse space for processing donations, storing product, and hosting the number of volunteers needed to significantly increase the number of children we can serve. Plus, volunteers and others who have visited our current warehouse are keenly aware of our lack of adequate parking at this facility.

Will you still serve children in the surrounding counties?

Yes!  We will absolutely continue to work with our service partners in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, and Camden counties so that we can support children in those places.  Our new Giving Factory will allow us to serve more kids than ever before throughout the entire Philadelphia region.

How much bigger is the new Giving Factory?

Our new location includes more than 25,000 square feet of usable warehouse, office and meeting space. This represents an increase of more than 50% and will allow us to design a better layout and flow of materials for processing KidPacks.

Fun fact: The actual footprint of space we are renting is just 21,000 s.f. but we are building a mezzanine level for staff use. This means that we are getting 4,000 s.f. of “free” space!

You said there is more parking?

Yes! Compared to our current lot, which (technically) fits only 20 cars, we will have 60 spaces designated with purple Cradles to Crayons parking signs, plus access to additional free public parking.

When will the new Giving Factory be open?

If we can meet our campaign fundraising goals by the end of February, we anticipate moving during the month of March and beginning to host volunteers and provide KidPacks to our partners by April.

As with any construction project, the process of converting an existing warehouse into our new Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory is subject to unforeseen “hiccups” which could cause delay.

Please follow us on social media for updates as we get closer to an official opening date.

Can I still volunteer at the West Conshohocken Giving Factory?

Through February and March we are still scheduling regular volunteer sessions at our current location. We need help sorting donations, creating outfits, and fulfilling KidPack requests. We will also need assistance with some heavy lifting. To aid in both quantity and quality of production during this small window of time, some sessions will be limited to adult-only groups.

If you would like to help, please submit a volunteer request at:

Please note that volunteer space is not reserved until you receive a registration confirmation email with your specific date and time.

Do you need help with the move?

We welcome offers to help from groups of approximately 15-20 able-bodied adults who could help with specific move-related projects in March. If your group is interested, please contact us at

How far away is the new location from the current warehouse?

4700 Wissahickon Ave is less than ten miles east of Conshohocken, which on a good traffic day is only a 10 minute drive.  Our new address is just off of Route 1 at the first exit north of 76.

For most of our supporters from New Jersey and Philadelphia, this will result in a shorter commute, and for many of those who are north or south of the city, the drive will be about the same.

The timing of our daytime volunteer shifts will continue to allow participants to avoid peak rush hour times on the road.

Why are you leaving the Conshohocken area?

We love our West Conshohocken neighborhood and have truly appreciated the support from local residents and businesses. Conshohocken is a vibrant community which has seen much growth over the years that we have been here. Unfortunately for us, that growth has also meant a rise in real estate prices, and we are no longer able to afford the cost of warehouse space in this area.

In addition, we know that the drive out here to pick up KidPacks is an impediment for many of our Philadelphia-based service partners. The closer proximity to a majority of our partners means that many children will receive their KidPacks more quickly, and we also expect an increase in the frequency and number of orders placed due to the added convenience.

Won’t this make KidPack pickup more difficult for service partners in the surrounding counties?

Plans are in the works for a regular series of regional distribution events to better support our outlying partner agencies and the children they serve. We successfully piloted this program last autumn and initial feedback is that this model will be even better for our partners than the current arrangement.

Are there any other benefits of this move to a new Giving Factory?

By relocating to within the city limits of Philadelphia - and by virtue of being on the corner of a public street - we expect that Cradles to Crayons’ visibility will increase significantly.  This will also help to elevate our presence among non-profit organizations and enable us to have a more profound impact on the discussions surrounding poverty issues in our city.
