Volunteer In The Giving Factory

Update on COVID-19: Keeping our staff, partners, and volunteers safe and minimizing the spread of COVID-19 virus is our top priority at this time. Our Giving Factory has re-opened to volunteers on a limited basis.

Please understand that although we need your help, we are operating at a severely limited capacity and may not have availability for several weeks. Your volunteer request will be queued until we can accommodate your group.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to fully re-opening when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Thanks for your interest in volunteering at The Giving Factory.

Fill out the form to the right and let’s get started.

A volunteer shift in The Giving Factory Warehouse involves hands-on processing of the donated goods that flow in on a regular basis. Each station in our warehouse includes inspecting, sorting, and packaging donations to ultimately be distributed to the children we serve.

Our volunteers – both adult and children – are the engine that powers Cradles to Crayons’ mission. Thank you for choosing to volunteer with us. You are joining thousands of people who have already made a significant impact in our community. We cannot wait to host you at the Giving Factory!

Getting Started

  1. Fill out the inquiry form on this page.
  2. Within just 3-5 business days, you’ll receive an email from one of our volunteer coordinators with more details – including available dates/times for your scheduled visit.

Preparing For Your Visit

Pre-Register Your Group: It is crucial that all volunteers coming to your shift pre-register by using the link in the confirmation email received by the group leader. By pre-registering, you provide the information that allows us to plan for your visit, communicate helpful reminders prior to the visit and to send a thank you after your shift. It is critical that we have an accurate list of who is in our Giving Factory warehouse at all times. ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST PERSONALLY REGISTER THEMSELVES, ENSURING THAT EACH PERSON HAS READ AND ACCEPTED OUR WAIVER AND COVID-RELATED SAFETY RULES.

Our volunteers – both adult and children – are the engine that powers Cradles to Crayons’ mission. Thank you for choosing to volunteer with us. You are joining thousands of people who have already made a significant impact in our community. We cannot wait to host you at the Giving Factory!

PLEASE NOTE: Cradles to Crayons has taken extensive steps to assure that our Giving Factory is clean and sanitized for everyone’s protection.  We ask that you read these important safety protocols and requirements that are part of our effort to keep staff and volunteers safe and to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus:

  1. Each working section will be cleaned and sanitized before and after every volunteer group.
  2. A maximum of 20 volunteers will be scheduled per shift to allow for appropriate social distancing.
  3. Please do not bring unregistered volunteers with you. Only confirmed volunteers will be allowed in – there will be no walk-in volunteers permitted.
  4. Note that all volunteers must be at least 10 years old; minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  5. Upon arrival, please wait outside the front door and a C2C staff member will greet you at your assigned start time and lead you inside, directly to your volunteer station.
  6. All volunteers must bring and wear a mask for the duration of their shift. The mask must cover both the nose and mouth. Anyone not wearing a mask will not be permitted.
  7. Sanitize your hands immediately upon entering the building.  Hand sanitizer will be available at the door and throughout the warehouse.
  8. Nitrile gloves will be available for volunteers, but are not mandatory to wear.
  9. We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle, which you can refill at our water station.  Drinking fountains will not be available.
  10. No eating or snacking will be allowed in the Giving Factory.
  11. For your safety, you will be working with product that has either been newly purchased, or donated and quarantined for at least 72 hours prior to your shift.

***If any of the below situations apply to you or members of your family/group, please do not register at this time:

  • Diagnosed with COVID-19 and have not yet been cleared as non-contagious by state or local public health authorities.
  • Exposed to a person with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
  • Experiencing symptoms of illness such as a fever, cough, or shortness of breath.

When You Arrive

  • A Cradles to Crayons staff member will greet you and lead you to the first service activity.
  • Once all groups have arrived, volunteers will gather for a brief orientation.
  • The orientation includes a brief overview about Cradles to Crayons and important logistical information about The Giving Factory (bathrooms, water, etc.). You and other volunteers will then be escorted to your assigned stations.
  • Your station leader will provide instructions about your task for the shift and will be present during the entire shift to answer questions or provide assistance.
  • At the end of your shift, your group will hear a brief wrap-up while having a group photo taken.

For more detailed information about what takes place during a typical shift, please see our Volunteer FAQ’s.

Weekday volunteer shifts are scheduled on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:00 am–12:00 pm and 1:00 pm–3:00 pm.
We also offer Tuesday evening shifts from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and occasional Saturday volunteer shifts from 10:00 am–12:00 pm and 1:00 pm–3:00 pm.

Most Needed Items

As a way to further engage your children in the volunteer experience, please bring at least one new or like-new children’s item to your shift. We encourage you to check our current “most needed items” list if you would like to help fill a gap in our inventory.
