Our Impact

Every Child Deserves the Essentials to Thrive

Clothing Insecurity affects 1 in 3 children—27 million kids—in the U.S., impacting not just comfort, but confidence, participation, and opportunity. We’re here to close that gap by providing free essentials to children living in low-income or homeless situations, and we partner with service organizations and volunteers to meet immediate needs with dignity and care.

Watch the video below to learn more about our impact from those we’ve helped.

The Challenge We’re Addressing

82% of the families we serve earn less than $30K annually. For families facing economic hardship, essentials like clothing, shoes, and school supplies compete with food, rent, and utilities. This scarcity creates ripple effects for children, including:

  • difficulty attending school regularly and comfortably
  • limited participation in activities with peers
  • increased stress and self-consciousness
  • barriers to focus and learning

These are not abstract challenges—they show up in classrooms, playgrounds, and daily routines.

How We’re Helping Children

Cradles to Crayons provides children with high-quality, individualized packages of essential items—free of charge—designed to ensure children have what they need for:

  • school and learning
  • play and physical activity

The Impact of our Collective Efforts

Families tell us that receiving essentials from Cradles to Crayons makes an immediate difference. Parents and caregivers tell us these essentials:

  • reduce stress and anxiety in the home
  • free up limited resources for food, housing, and utilities
  • help them engage more fully at work, in school, and in their communities

When parents are stabilized, children are stabilized too. Receiving essentials helps them:

  • attend school regularly and confidently
  • participate in classroom learning and peer activities
  • feel a sense of belonging among classmates
  • focus on learning instead of unmet basic needs

The Power of Partnership

Our extensive network of Service Partners is the crucial link between Cradles to Crayons and the children we serve. Providing clothes is a way for Service Partners to grow trust and show care, and together we continue to fill gaps that no other community or governmental resource can provide.

My children have received outfits, coats, school supplies, and more. It boosts my children’s confidence and my own because I know we will all be more prepared for our day every day. It puts me at ease knowing these needed basics won’t be a financial burden for me and my family.”
