Winter Coats Collection Drive Enters Final Phase
Last Chance to Participate in Trolley Car Restaurants’  “We’re Warming Up Northwest Philly” Winter Coats Drive to Benefit Cradles to Crayons

PHILADELPHIA, PA, January 3, 2013 – Trolley Car Diner and Trolley Car Café restaurants are entering the final phase of their two-month drive to collect children’s and adults’ winter coats in support of Cradles to Crayons and The Salvation Army Roxborough Corps Community Center, “and there is no better time to donate than now,” said Trolley Car owner Ken Weinstein, ”with winter’s coldest weather ahead of us.”

The “We’re Warming Up NW Philly” drive to collect winter coats will continue through January 14 at the Diner and Café locations in Mt. Airy and East Falls. The Trolley Car Diner is located at 7619 Germantown Avenue, the Trolley Car Café at 3269 S. Ferry Road (at Kelly Drive).

Children’s coats, size newborn to 14/16, collected during the drive, will be donated to Cradles to Crayons; men’s and women’s coats will be donated to The Salvation Army Roxborough Corps Community Center.

“This is the twelfth year that we’ve conducted a coat drive,” said Weinstein, “and our customers have made each year’s collections greater than the year before. We anticipate that that this year will be another record-setter.”

“The warm winter coats that come to Cradles to Crayons as a result of the Trolley Car drive,” said Michal Smith, executive director of the Montgomery County-based nonprofit that addresses the poverty faced by one in five children in the Greater Philadelphia region, “along with other generous donations throughout this community, will be delivered to thousands of area children who would otherwise go to school this winter without a warm coat, who would sit in class in cold, soggy sneakers, and who would play outside without hats and gloves to protect them from the cold. Speaking for these children,” Smith continued, “we say ‘thank you.’”

The Trolley Car Diner and Café annual coat drive is an initiative of the Trolley Car Helping Hands program, an umbrella for the Mt. Airy Teacher’s Fund, Trolley Car Table Tennis Club, and Helping Hands Week Program. The restaurants are recipients of the 2012 Retailer of the Year award from the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce for their service to the community.
